Animal Cops, Cape Town

Animal Planet follow the outstanding work of the inspectors from the Cape of Good Hope SPCA (Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in Cape Town, South Africa. SPCA officers deal with animal rescues and investigate dog fighting rings, an underground illegal blood sport in the area. The wildlife rescue team deal with anything from seals, baboons, crocodiles, tortoises, snakes, porcupines, birds of prey to zebras, impalas and even penguins. Animals are rehoused at the SPCA while they wait for adoption. Vet checks are performed on the animals as well as any necessary operations.

Chimp Eden (Jane Goodall Institute)

The Jane Goodall Institute at Chimp Eden is the first and only chimp sanctuary in South Africa. Eugene Cussons is managing director of Chimp Eden and rescue director of Jane Goodall Institute South Africa. He devotes his life to saving chimpanzees, often travelling to dangerous and war-torn countries to rescue abused, neglected and threatened chimps. Eugene is determined to give the near human creatures another chance at life, by either re-educating them himself or introducing them to other members of their species.

Shamwari: A Wild Life, shows the thrilling, heart-warming and sometimes dangerous job of running a successful reserve. Australian born presenter and documentary film maker, Lyndal Davies, has set up a Shamwari film unit & production office on the reserve.
